SUMMARY:Local mother & teen daughter bring hopeful\, practical climate solutions to Agawam
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday\, February 3\, from 4:00–5:15 PM\, the Agawam Rotary Club will host a free public presentation at the Agawam Public Library featuring Kimberly Haidinger and her teenage daughter\, Luna Hansen – a mother-daughter climate advocacy team focused on everyday actions families can realistically take to lower their carbon footprint. \nKimberly is a climate advocate and author\, and Luna (15 years old) is the illustrator of their middle-grade nonfiction books\, including A Kid’s Guide to Climate Activism and the upcoming A Kid’s Guide to Economic Activism for the Climate. Together\, they translate big climate challenges into small\, doable habits that feel empowering instead of intimidating – a message that resonates deeply right now. \nThis event also marks the launch of the Agawam Rotary Club’s new monthly speaker series\, reflecting Rotary’s long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship and community education. \nDuring the talk\, Kimberly and Luna will share their concept of “Everyday Climate Commitments” – simple\, household-level choices that add up when practiced collectively\, including: \n\nReducing food waste and keeping it out of the trash\nEating more plant-based meals (without perfection or pressure)\nEliminating single-use items through practical\, local alternatives\n\nTheir perspective is shaped in part by time spent living in Denmark\, where sustainable choices are built into daily life. Now back in the U.S.\, their focus is on helping families adopt climate-friendly habits that fit real American lives.
